How to Clean and Care for Your Glass Straws

How to Clean and Care for Your Glass Straws

We've been making glass straws for years, and we've been using the same ones at home for just as long. With a little care, yours will last too. Here's everything you need to know.

What They're Made Of

Our straws are made from borosilicate glass, the same tough, heat-resistant glass used in lab equipment and quality cookware. They're great for hot and cold drinks, from iced tea to your morning coffee.

Cleaning

Keep it simple: mild dish soap and warm water. Run a straw brush through the inside, and you're done. We haven't met a smoothie yet that this couldn't handle.

Dishwasher Safe?  Yes!

Put them on the top rack. At our house, ours go into the silverware caddy. Just make sure the sculpted styles aren't knocking against anything during the wash.

Two Kinds of Toppers

  • Fused toppers sit flat along the straw. They're sturdy and happy almost anywhere, even in the silverware drawer.
  • Sculpted toppers, like our bee, elephant, and sunflower straws, stand up off the straw like tiny sculptures. Give them a gentler touch in the dishwasher and in storage.

The straws are colored in shades of deep blue, black, and green, with the rib details in cream, yellow, and pastel tones.Three glass straws shaped like bees with black and yellow stripes, one green, in a clear glass container against a blurred natural background.

Our Favorite Tip for Sculpted Toppers

Use them in travel tumblers! The cup is wider than the straw, so your bee or sunflower stays safe from bumps.

Storage

Our straws live standing up in a vintage Blenko glass pitcher on our coffee bar: easy to grab, and they look great too.  If you have a bar cart, these would be super cute on display there as well. Plain straws and fused toppers are fine in a drawer.  Sculpted toppers are happier standing up.

The Honest Part

It's glass. If it hits a tile floor (or your granite counters), it might break, and we don't offer a guarantee against drops. If you're famously clumsy, glass straws might not be your thing.  But Brent is a self-acknowledged klutz (yes, a clumsy glassblower, and he has the scars to prove it), and our plain and fused styles are still going strong years later. You know yourself best!

Find Your Perfect Straw

Every FBG straw is made to order, so you get exactly what you want:

  • Pick your style: plain or with one of our toppers.
  • Pick your color: choose from 4 of our favorite straw colors and 6 unique topper options
  • Pick your length: The Cocktail (5.5"), The Everyday (9"), or The Traveler (10.5")
  • Pick your width: standard or boba (equally ideal for smoothies, too)
  • Add a bend to The Everyday or The Traveler. (You can bend a cocktail, too, but we're not sure why you'd want to. 🙃)
  • Add a cleaning brush. Trust us, it's worth it.

All options are right in the listing. Durable, BPA-free borosilicate glass that's perfect for hostess and housewarming gifts, stocking stuffers, and white elephant swaps, and super fun to mix and match.
